The city with the three castles! Castles that survive and reveal the important historical course of the place. The picturesque town of Preveza, at the entrance of the Amvrakikos Gulf, is adorned with the castle of Agios Andreas, the castle of Agios Georgios, on the Cyan Coast, and the castle of Pantokrator (built by order of Ali Pasha in 1807, in order to ensure control of the Amvrakikos Gulf mouth), in the homonymous district, with its magnificent view of the sea and the sunset.
Three castles, two names (one Greek and one Turkish) for each of them. The impressively well-preserved castle of Agios Andreas, or Itz Kale, which is also the oldest in the city, built by the Ottomans in the 17th century, and later repaired by the Venetians. And the castle of St. George, or Yeni Kale, built by Ali Pasha in the early 19th century.
