Nicopolis – South gate of Roman walls

Nicopolis – South gate of Roman walls

The surviving sections of the walls of Nicopolis date from the early Christian era (5th century AD), and are considered to be one of the most important pieces of fortification in Greece. Parts of Octavian’s wall, built around the 1st century AD, were incorporated. The walls are preserved over a considerable length, with surviving gates, towers, and fortifications to a significant height.
